Projects Completed

Lyptus Butcher Block Countertop for Kitchen Island - Eric and Cindy Jacobs Bilsky of Silver Spring, MD have completed their kitchen re-modeling project - beautiful!  Their project includes this "end" grain butcher block countertop for their kitchen island.  It is made up of over 225 one and three quarter inch wide Lyptus blocks and includes Hard Maple accents in the far corners from the sink.  This butcher block top is  2 1/2 inches thick and is finished in an FDA food grade approved white mineral oil finish.  The green concrete countertops where fabricated by Michael Sass of Formation Concrete Countertops.   Michael pays attention to the smallest of details (as I do) and our work compliments each others beautifully - checkout the matching curve between our countertops and our matching cabinet overhangs and edges.

Quoting Cindy and Eric, "Our butcher block is beautiful ... we're reluctant to cut on it now... it is the centerpiece of our new kitchen... thank you!"

Be sure to checkout the other Lyptus Butcher Block below!

An entrance door with a leaded glass panel - Drs. Amaris Little Rajaski and Jeff Rajaski of Frederick, MD have had installed a custom built entrance door for their home.  This door is made of Brazilian Cherry (a.k.a. Jobota) and their hallway light sets off all the spectacular beauty of this door - click on the thumbnails and see for yourself.  Installation completed by Dorcus Construction Company, Inc. of Thurmont, MD.

Bloodwood Entertainment Shelving - Mr. Kauchak of Alexandria, VA has received his entertainment shelving for his various system components.  This cabinet is installed inside an alcove above his three sided fireplace.  Hopefully, I'll receive some installation photos to post soon.

Ethan Allen Wall Entertainment Unit Modification - Mr. and Mrs. Gleason of Leesburg, VA have had a modification made to their entertainment wall unit.  After the original TV went, they were not able to obtain a replacement from Ethan Allen.  Well their new Sony 46" LCD widescreen TV fits beautifully into its new home!

Mrs. Gleason quoted at delivery, "Dave your work shows you care, the new cherry cabinet and bead board back match perfectly...as though they have always been part of the unit."

Cherry Kitchen Table and Bench Seat - Mr. and Mrs. Roustom of Vienna, VA have taken delivery of their cherry kitchen table and matching 71/2 foot bench seat with storage.  Quoting Mrs. Roustom, "Dave everything turned out as I envisioned... thank you so much."  Mr. and Mrs. Roustom have placed a follow-on order for a new bedroom suite that will include a new bed, dresser, TV stand, etc.

Cherry Curio Cabinet - A small project for my son's special someone that I finished this Christmas.

Built-In Entertainment Cabinet - Mr. and Mrs. Rovin of Frederick, MD have had installed a walnut entertainment cabinet that houses their TV, VCR, CD, turntable and etc.  All component cabling is hidden in the design of this cabinet and the lower cabinet contains two pullout shelves for easy access.  Besides the new entertainment cabinet, they had their existing walnut-stained pine chair railing replaced with solid walnut chair railing manufactured by Swiger WoodWorks.  Huffer & Huffer, Inc. again performed the room prep work and installation.

From Mrs. Rovin, "...we are really enjoying the beautiful cabinet and new chair rail.  What a difference in the room..."

Built-in Integrated Library Wall Unit - Mr. and Mrs. Pry, owners of the Needwood Farms of Burkittsville, MD, had installed an integrated library wall unit made of black walnut  from their property.  This built-in wall unit, floor-to-ceiling, spans approximately a twelve foot long wall in their new home.  The center showpiece of this project includes a fireplace with two large raised panels set above it (the beautiful fox mount in the photos belongs to Mr. Pry and was killed on the road in front of their home).  Six bookcases and two lower cabinets are installed at each end of the unit to provide for a library of books.  The beautiful graining of the walnut with its hand rubbed finish provides for a very rich looking unit that the happy homeowners will enjoy for many years to come.  I would like to say thank you to Huffer & Huffer, Inc. (home construction builders and finish carpenters) who performed yet another trouble free/superb installation.

From Mrs. Pry,  "Dave...Richard and I wish to thank you for the beautiful job you did for us.  Everyone (who visits) just stands there and their months fly open... it really is indescribable...We're so lucky..."

Built-in Bay Window Bench Seat w End Bookcases - Mr. and Mrs. Porter of Middletown, MD have had their pine bay window bench seat with end bookcases installed in their kitchen dining area.  I enjoyed this project with its various distinctive characteristics.

From the Porters, "Mr. Swiger...exhibited true professionalism...in the way he worked with us through at least 3 revisions to assure we would get exactly what we wanted. The results were exquisite; a true testament to Dave's artistic talents and woodworking skills. We would gladly recommend David for any custom woodworking project."

Lyptus Butcher Block Countertop for Kitchen Island  - Mr. and Mrs. Michienzi of White Plains, MD have taken delivery of their "end" grain butcher block countertop for their kitchen island.  This top is made of Lyptus and includes subtle Purpleheart accent pieces placed in the corners.  The 1 3/4 in. wide by 2 1/4 in. thick block pieces are 4, 6 and 8 inches in length and are randomly spaced to from this unique butcher block top.  The top is finished in an FDA food grade approved mineral oil finish and, as you can see, it will be used to prepare many delicious meals.

"Dave, we love our new countertop - it's already gotten plenty of use... it is truly a one-of-a-kind piece of art.  The first thing visitors do is walk over and place their hands on it, and say wow!"

Some photos after a year's worth of cutting and chopping on it.  Check out the tile work added to the cabinet by the homeowners - beautiful!

"Dave, people who haven't seen it still walk up, touch it, and say wow!"

Cherry Built-in Cabinets and Bookcases - Mr. and Mrs. Burtzlaff of Clarksville, MD have had installed a set of cherry cabinets and bookcases with all associated moldings constructed of solid cherry - crown, fluted columns, etc.  These cabinets and bookcases are fitted into a living room with nine foot ceilings and their size and rich finish provide a serene library-like atmosphere to the room.  They would also be fitting for any home library or den.  This project was a joint effort with Huffer & Huffer, Inc. (home construction builders and finish carpenters) who performed the room prep work and installation.  They did an excellent job and I hope to have the opportunity to team with them again and again...

From Mrs. Burtzlaff,  "Dave...wanted to let you know how wonderful the bookcases/cabinets are.  I sit in the living room every morning for a little quiet time and love the new view... Everyone who sees them raves, and I show them off to everyone that comes near our front door...Our best wishes to you... we will pass your name and card around whenever we can - and may... call you again sometime."

Cherry Japanese "Shoji Like" Sliding Doors - Mr. and Mrs. Yacob of Washington, D.C. have had installed four Japanese "Shoji Like" sliding doors made of cherry with their associated door jam moldings.  These doors are being used as a room divider to create an office den and guest room.  They are extremely delighted with this delivery that they claim is a work of art and a central show piece in their home - see their thank you below.  This project was special and I enjoyed doing it very much.

Thank you:

Dear Dave,

We can't thank you enough for the beautiful art work that you have done in our place.  You managed to produce a stunning effect on everyone who have seen it.  Looking forward to the next project.  Thank you..., we really appreciate it.

                                                Sincerely,

                                                        Amal & Louis

Walnut Cabinet - I would like to thank Mr. Karn of Burkittsville, MD for his request to build a walnut cabinet to serve as a TV stand and file cabinet combination.  He provided the beautiful walnut for this project from trees fallen more than twenty years ago on his South Mountain property next to the George Alfred Townsend (Gath), Gathland Estate (now a state park).  As a thank you, Mr. Karn immediately ordered a walnut desk be built for him, see below.

Walnut Desk - Mr. Karn of Burkittsville, MD was so pleased with his walnut cabinet (see above) that he ordered a custom walnut desk be built for him.  Again, he provided the walnut for this project from trees fallen on his mountain property.  The agreed design of the desk consisted of fifteen raised panels and nine raised drawer fronts. The desk is solid walnut (no plywood or veneers) with maple used for the drawers and hard maple for the writing boards.  The file drawers of each pedestal can be arranged for either letter or legal size hanging folders.

Quoting Mr. Karn,  "... it is beautiful, you do very professional work as the details of this desk shows.  I now have two wonderful walnut pieces of furniture of highest quality... from trees fallen on my property... thank you so much."

Shoe Bench and Coat Utility Rack - This was a small, but unique project for my son's new home.  Both items are constructed of red oak and have a cherry finish applied.  They do an excellent job of organizing his garage entrance via his mud room.

Quoting my son, "They look great, they are EXACTLY what I wanted...Thanks Dad"

A 2005 Christmas Gift - A local customer requested a special "little" something be completed by Christmas so that it could be given as a gift to friends who own horses.   It's a desk top organizer with stamp dispenser.  My customer reports that the friends who received this gift are very delighted with it.  Be sure to click on the photo to see all the fine details of the horse which make this such a unique desk organizer.
